August 1 @ 12:00 am - August 31 @ 11:30 pm CDT$15 – $30
Last-minute registration opportunity:
Be a part of the South Loop’s newest community event!
There are a lot of activities and events missing from the South Loop this summer; festivals, Movies in the Park, Summer Dance, and the many race events that pass through the neighborhood.
This year we’re starting a new tradition with our very own neighborhood 5k run/walk, in a virtual format.

WHAT IS A VIRTUAL 5K?
A virtual 5k gives you the support of a fellow community of runners along with the flexibility to complete your race on your schedule and desired route. You can run or walk outdoors or on a treadmill and either alone or with a group of friends (please observe proper social distancing).
It’s all about setting a goal to complete the race distance and following through. Then put that hard-earned medal around your neck, take a selfie, and share your accomplishment with fellow participants by posting a photo on social media and in the dedicated event Facebook group!
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
- Find your motivation and sign up!!!
- Run or walk a 5k distance during the month of August
- Don your custom race medal and share your achievement on social media using the hashtag #run thesouthloop
- Enjoy the post-run feeling of accomplishment
REGISTRATION OPTIONS: LAST-MINUTE REGISTRATION
We’ve heard from several neighbors who missed the initial registration period and are offering two “last chance” opportunities for those who still want to participate in this year’s Run the South Loop virtual 5k!
Race packets will be available for pickup in the neighborhood. Participants will receive details about race packet pickup dates and location.
Option 1: Last-minute “lite” registration
Participants who select our “lite” registration package will receive an official race medal and swag bag with sponsor swag. A t-shirt is not included in this package.
Option 2: Last-minute full registration
Participants who select the full registration package will receive an official race medal, official race t-shirt, and swag bag with sponsor swag. T-shirts will arrive in early September, however we can arrange for pickup or delivery of the other items before the t-shirts arrive.
Proceeds from this event will support the Greater South Loop Association’s efforts to bring programming and neighborhood enhancement initiatives to the neighborhood. 25% of the proceeds will be used to engage Cleanslate, a not-for-profit entity that provides transitional employment and job skill training, to periodically clean the trash and litter from the sidewalks along the Roosevelt Corridor throughout the summer and fall months.
